abe, who are you , you are what we read.

You have been here awhile and we know you better. Have you screwed up, I am thinking we all screwup. That is what is good about being here. There are many checks and balances that prove a question true. In the past I have exposed about four bogas posts that people were being strung along. There is one now that there is still responce to. James, screwed up, OK, a convict serves time and a disruptive student spends time in the corner. What does James have to do to serve his repentance? James, a blanket apology would be good here... If there is none, I retract these comments. r.w.landau

yourself a break here. I have watched this and just had to laugh. Would also do as you did. Always have respect for a VET. If James is not a real man and can't stand up and say "I screwed up" then it is his loss. As we would say in Allison Park "NEXT" There many twisted people on the net. Joe Dougan

Real question

As upsetting as James' post was, if he posts a real question that I can offer assistance, I will respond. Thank you everyone who posted possible solutions to my dilemas. James, as you'll learn, there are many ways to screw in a light bulb. Welcome aboard and now off to Strictly Sail in Chicago for more lessons...

Flame Off!

I would not wish to be living in any other country in the entire world. That does not mean that I value a fireman or cop or soldier with more respect than I value a scientist, engineer, teacher or even a president and some of these may even have been awfully. I am not judging James or you or any vet on the merits of your past and future devotion to this country. People make choices in their lives. My uncle was a fly boy in WW II and my dad was a C.O. What is the difference? I thank all the people that served in the armed services that have helped to keep this country free and alive with discourse and I thank all the people that helped to try to keep a healthy perspective on living a good life and doing good for others less fortunate. Again, what is the difference? Is it more noble to die from a bullet in Afganistan or to be a teacher in Bedford-Stuyvestant or a bad section of L.A. or Baltimore who takes a cap in his head from some gang banger? I prefer to be more tolerant (read Liberal) and would rather let people make their choices in life and not get all hot under the collar about which is more right or noble. Remember my rant about how we are all hard wired to prefer our own group. Everyone does it. Think about it. If it makes you feel better, I do not think that you (r.w.) or James are a$$holes. You just think about things a little differently than I do which is why I have broken my own rule to not get into politics with boaters because the one thing I have in common with all of you here is a love of sailing, boating and the water and furthering my understanding with your help. For that I owe you all thanks. For pretending to deceive or even offending people on this forum is not an offense worth throwing a hand grenade into their fox hole or boat but it is still a free country the last time I checked (which was a while ago) so derision and scorn are still not on the list of DHS rules for boarding planes or wire tapping phone lines (I may be mistaken here). Scott from NJ, I need that political forum website url NOW! Lastly, I apologise for giving a full strength sarcastic reply full of irony and rubbing salt in the wounds of a member of the DOD who served this great country. It was just too easy and my point is that there are "jerks" of all stripes with differing points of view. If you can dish it out you had best be able to take it. Parting shot: Decider: (not in any dictionary yet except this one, again from the web and not my own creation) A decider is someone who makes decisions on issues using a lack of judgment and intelligence. Typically a decider has a propensity of sticking his head up his a$$. He usually lets even more idiotic people make the actual decisions for him. Apparently, The Decider is George W. Bush. "I hear the voices, and I read the front page, and I know the speculation. But I'm the decider, and I decide what is best." Divider: area 1/2 between 2 nipples on women tits = divider. (from a webstite - not my creation. Not to be confused with Divisor which usually works out to an even division of lengths or areas. This is a real word and not to be confused with any made up words that sound similar. It is also a nautical tool for figuring distances travelled on a nautical chart using a compass rose for orientation which you walk over a chart. Again, I apologize for those who have given and risked their lives so that I may make my observations from the comforts of my own home and dream about the forthcoming sailing season. Smooth seas and following winds to all and sorry to have perpetuated this thread longer than it maybe needed to be. Honest questions deserve honest answers. Thanks to all that feel the same.

Maybe I should delete my last post too?

Lest master Phil point his guns at me. I really meant no harm. Real apologies to all I may have offended. I do enjoy this site and hope and (yes) even pray that my sharp tongue (is that possible with the written word?) does not fan the flames of ... Oh no! No more. Thanks all.

Caleb D , berating a President is my next

Angst.... If you scroll up to message boards then drop down to the third item, forums shared, then drop down to Politics, and religion and other angsts... That would be a place to post your last two posts. r.w.landau

Thanks for the tip. I will now attempt to adhere to my own principles which forbid me to get into anything remotely political because I do value ALL of the input that this forum affords. Again, my apologies directly to you as it seems I have offended you in particular. I do not want a battleship shutting my little old fiberglass boat and my dreams down. I will find an appropriate outlet for my off subject rants and/or keep them to myself in the future or at least off this site. I thank you for your input. Tolerance and brotherly love (Quakerism) forbids me from inquiring what set you off so much. I hope we can patch this up and get on with business as usual (no rants).

Army?

James, In my mind, it's your credibility that is in question. I retired a few years ago after 35 yrs of military service and I can garantee that your understanding of human nature and character was not garnered from the Army. Further, my experience tells me that anyone that deceives/scams/cons or attempts to play idiotic mind games such as you have attempted here, would not last 20 yrs in the Army. Mike

CalebD I have nothing against you .Like I said

we all screw up. The guy with the battleship (whos avatar is actually comforting to me) Is a fair and unbias judge. He does protect the site , (cause it is his!) He is slow to anger but will deal with things as needed. Caleb, I like your questions and your input. I was offendend when it went military and the Presidential. Phil (the battleship)made a way that those type of quibbles can be resolved elsewhere, he created the Political, religious, and other angst forum. That frees this place up for sailing. Caleb there is no problem. You have good questions and good input. You are valued as anyone else here. You made a statement and I debated it. That doesn't mean you are wrong, heck with my recall, I am lucky to....what were we talking about? Best to you Caleb. r.w.landau

Benny

Guys, peace; we are all entitled

to our opinions and are free to express them as long as we do it in a respectful manner. Mr. Machin was wrong and given the chance he refused to apoligize. Lets get back to sailing.

Hey! Whoa!! I also served in the Army ,

I spent over a year in Viet Nam and am proud to have serve. The only reason I brought up his 20 years was that "The Army tought me" crap of his. My service doesn't buy me any special treatment, heck, I was drafted. what say we don't waist anymore time on this clown. Tom s/v GAIA

Dear R.W....

having been in the military myself I can absolutely, unequivically state that not all veterans are honest, trustworthy and deserving of respect. If you want to give the Machin a second chance, that's your naive choice... but please don't play the "willing to die for us" card as justification for those of us who choose not to.... that's truly insulting.

Peace and Ditto R.W.

I really did violate my own rules about BOTH religion and politics. Everyone has a right to their ideas and opinions and feelings. I respect that we may have some differences and in fact I believe that our differences make us stronger in some ways. What I really like about this forum is the knowledge that you all have about sailing and all its challenges. The challenges on land tend to get confused with that other stuff that I refuse to debate as your opinions are just as valid as mine. There is no winning and this is a sailing website which has nothing to do with those other things I brought up. What were they? Pigeons and lunatics?
