I heard that AC was going to be on Navionics soon so any body know if it
working on it yet.

So I migrated my old Active Captain account to the new Garmin Active Captain.
Anyone here using it on their laptop? I either cannot figure out how to access the features or many of the features no longer work unless you have it synced to a chart plotter. I have been trying to figure out how to measure distances for legs of a trip. Active used to let you drop way points right on the laptop computer screen. That feature seems to be missing.

Anyone got some insights to share? So far, I miss the old active captain and I am inclined to rely on my Navonics App on my phone for my day dreaming and trip planning.

I figured it wouldn’t take Garmin more than a year to eff up Active Captain.
I also have tried to get active captain on rose-point, my laptop, my cell phone, and tablet. The only way that I seem to be able to access it at all is to login through Google. Fortunately my tablet has a capacity to work with Google Chrome and also my location. We are all very upset with Garmin

The change was just that Garmin needed to update their API's and devs would need to adjust to accommodate those changes.
Garmin has updated so much of my garmin gear that most of it sits in a box unusable. Now ActiveCaptain. Charts become unavailable because Garmin Bluechart is no longer works with my perfectly serviceable Map72 handheld. And just the other day I heard that Garmin now owns Navionics. If they manage to eff that up as bad as everything else I may have lost my investment in Navico Simrad hardware. Really getting to dislike Garmin.

tried to get active captain on rose-point,
What version are you running? I had no problem. populated the first long download, then updates when the program sync's. You will need the newest version (an online upgrade) to have AC download automatically. Has to do with the change in server at AC/Garmin. It is why everyone is upset. Not all of the app developers have upgraded their product to adapt to the new server setup at Garmin. Not sure but Garmin may also have a fee associated with the linking software license. Would not be surprised. Only a guess on my part. Would stop a lot of developers from adding the link. Until the lack of AC on their platform caused a change in their revenue.

I use MX Mariner on my android phone. They overlay Active Captain data on their nav charts so I get the same crowdsource info that is on the AC/Garmin website. Still works even after the Garmin takeover.

I use AC on MX Mariner on my Android and it seems to work flawlessly. On our iPad we use Aqua Map Marine and it seems to have more bells and whistles than my plotter. Not only that it's only $29 including charts.

It’s not a good guess because it’s wrong. There are no fees for developers or users.

Active Captain: Can you answer my original question? Can I drop way points and measure distances on my laptop using the new AC? I can't seem to do more than simply see/edit/add markers for marinas etc. If I can, would you please advise how?

Thanks,
rmg

@ActiveCaptain Always good to hear from you. Sometimes I guess right other times I guess wrong. It was a SWAG, based on other projects I have seen. Happy to hear that it is not the case with Garmin.
How about the rest of the speculation that is going on? Your insights are always helpful.

AC works fine for me on my laptop and on a couple of tablets running Aqua Maps. Migration was easy and trouble free.

@Cat 310 #1 in GA can you explain how you drop a way point? I can't even find any hyper links to controls. I've tried right clicking, left clicking and I've clicked every hyper link on the interactive map.

Thanks in advance. I'd love to get that functionality back.

RMG,
Sorry, can't help because I just tried that and agree it does not seem possible on the web version. I add waypoints to my Aqua Maps but not the interactive map on the website...

@rgranger have you tried planning on the Navionics web app? By far the easiest I have tried. The auto route is pretty good or you can manual route

Dang! I really liked that feature. I would pre-plan most of my trips during my lunch breaks at work.

I am running version 3.1.17086 of Coastal Explorer.
I have updated it but don't see where I did "turn on" AC.
Thanks for your help

You will need to upgrade to the new 4.0 version I believe. Send a message to support asking about it. Think they had to change the platform to accommodate the new AC. I was told the programmers were working with Garmin regarding the access within CE.
