I am considering putting onto cabin floor teak & holly laminate wood 12 mills with veneer of 2 mills. Will 2 mills thickness hold up? How many coats of epoxy would you recommend?I appreciate the input
Why epoxy as opposed to poly or something like Ultimate Sole? Both of them should be preferable unless you are talking about the bottom to preclude water penetration. I'll leave it to the wood experts to comment on the veneer. The advantage of using the Ultimate Sole is that it will protect the wood as well as poly but be less slippery when wet. We put that on our shower teak floor and it works great.
job of teak & holly veneer. I used west system and contacted them for advise. The said three coats of epoxy on both sides and the edges. Then three coats of varnish on the teak side. I have photos of some of the problems I ran into listed on this site. Search for teak & holly, and sole. The reason for coating all sides was the fact that if you try to coat the back only, the wood can warp from moisture exposure if the unfinished side is not coated quickly after the epoxy is applied.
Ross,The plywood is about 1/2" thick. I was using the size stated by sales rep. I May misunderstood him and that he meant the veneeer was 12 mills.MikeKerry, I'll look up info on this site - Thanks, Mike
