Fabulous 20 + mile sail on Charlotte harbor today. Apparent winds 10-15, gusts to 25. Seas 6" to 1'. 7 mile long beam reach, 2 jibe run, 2 mile beam reach up Peace River. Most fun you can have with your clothes on. Glad I don't have to pull my boat in the fall.

Yepper, we had a nice day ride yesterday. About 72 deg., 5 knot breeze on the beam, went out to Bald Head and back. Didn't break any speed records, which is probably just as well. We had company with us, an older power boat couple, so I'm glad we weren't heeling much. Very, very nice.

It was a nice day...But I'm still grounded because of Isaac - admiral says I can't sail until the house is put back together - all the way down to the the baseboards; so my weekends have been filled up. I was thinking the other day this must be what it's like to live up north.

We're freezing at 13 degrees and watching the snow fall. LOATH is not a strong enough word.

Back in the crazy days when I was bouncing about all over the world, (I call it my Hunter S. Thompson days), I crash landed in the far reaches of the north of Canada. I got snowed in for MONTHS, could not leave. And while the people were nice enough, and it was in fact beautiful, I spent a considerable amount of time telling folks, "Go south!! What the hell is wrong with you". They spent fully half their lives simply trying to SURVIVE.
Not a very conducive sailing environment.

13 deg? It's 70 right now, at nine in the morning.. Yucch.

Had a friend who moved here to Florida. His house had a niche by the front door that was empty for a few months 'cuz he couldn't think of what to hang in it. I suggested a snow shovel. He thought it a brilliant idea and hung one up. His wife didn't talk to me for 6 months.

Reminds me of my buddy from Alaska.. we used to ride motorcycles together here in Louisiana. In January one year, he said that he could motorcycle in Alaska in the summer, but not a lot of people did because they went swimming on that day.

I too have a buddy in Alaska...he prefers the winter because the lakes freeze over and you can get to more places on your snowmobile...that makes no sense to me at all, but you gotta be a little crazy to live up there anyway I suppose.
