proper etiquette on a fun day of sail. the skipper is in charge. it is his job to teach the crew. you need to teach your friends that they are your crew for the sail. remind them of their childhood delight of playing on a jungle gym. explain that a sailing vessel is even more fun as it is a moving, tilting, bouncing jungle gym. explain that the will have to move around many times during the sail. explain that they will need to help with the lines and you will teach how as the sail develops. as soon as your in clear water tack 4 times so the crew can practice moving around and adjusting lines. show them how a boat beats into the wind. show them how a boat reaches. show them how a runs with the wind. let them experience the different moods of sailing. throw up the spinnaker and get them excited. then while this is going on explain to them that during all this excitement that a picnic os going on simultaneously. pass the pb&j please. teach them to wave at every passing vessel, an old tradition of the sea. teach them that healing is normal and that the need to get their childhood jungle gym skills going like they were 6 again.
