T-track on mast

I have a T-track mounted on the lower 2 feet of my standard rig mast. Any idea what it is for? I'm guessing for a spinnaker or whisker pole, but it seems too low for either.

Probably for a wisker pole

A wisker pole track usually starts lower down on the mast than a spiniker pole track and usually does not need to go up very far. A wisker pole extends more or less perpindicularly out from the mast to the jib clew and hence starts at a position on the mast more or less the same height of the jib clew. Fron there only minor adjustment up or down would be required. Small boats will only use a fixed ring attached to the bottom of the mast. However, it is possible that there is an entirely different purpose for this track, but I am at a loss to determine what. It may actually have something to do with a spiniker pole set up.

I agree...

... with Bayard. Too low for spin pole set up, unless they are running asymetrical only, where the pole is kept very low. Most likely for whisker pole.
