I'm having the bottom blasted on the 28th and was going to pull the keel and have it done too. Then do the bottom job on it also. What kind of work are you doing on your keel?
Take a look at this link: http://s2sailor.110mb.com/cbremoval.htm
The setup on the 6.8 looks similar to the 8.0 swing keel setup... at least from a casual exterior inspection of my boat before I bought it.
It will be interesting to see the condition of the cable. I need to fix my cable with a stop like yours so I don't loose it down the tube. That's going to be a tall ladder to crawl up on the boat with it suspended from the crane!I'm having the bottom blasted on the 28th and was going to pull the keel and have it done too. Then do the bottom job on it also.
That would make it easy to work on with out having to use the crane for hours at a time.
The link site was down so I will check it out later.
Shoal draft with swing keels or fin keels for the 8.0s. On the original 8.0 price list it says 'Keel Centerboard' but it's a swinger on mine. Are you sure it is a "swing" keel? Or is it a verticle rise "daggerboard"? I just removed my S2 6.9 daggerboard and have some good advice for you. Call me at 817-614-4453
I've been having trouble with the 110mb.com web hosting lately, so I moved all of my pages to hostoi.com. You can find the centerboard removal page here now: http://s2sailor.hostoi.com/cbremoval.htmWhat kind of work are you doing on your keel?

Hi,
I have some pictures of the centerboard rebuild in an S2 6.8 here. We reengineered the centerboard cable attachment.

We broke the cable while sailing in Florida. The attachment point was worn out.
It seems to be working well now.
We have sailed with this set up last year with no problems. I am still thinking of adding some shims to the pivot point because I have some slapping noise when I sail in big waves.Amos Cape said:It looks very good now. Does it work as good as the old setup? Did you have too rebuilt the rusted out area or did you use what was left on the sides?
And to answer your question. We used the metal that was left on the sides and drilled two holes to attach the side plates.Amos Cape said:It looks very good now. Does it work as good as the old setup? Did you have too rebuilt the rusted out area or did you use what was left on the sides?
