1983 C34; I wish to extend the depth of the stern mounted swim ladder so that the first rung is deeper beneath the surface of the water (when the ladder is dropped). My plan is to lower the position of the ladder so that the “crutch tipped supports” are just above the edge of the transom. I also plan to add a folding step to replace the top rung. Has anyone made this improvement? I am open to all suggestions.

Possible solution

Have you thought of adding a 1 or 2 step rope ladder to the bottom rung instead of moving the existing ladder?

More Ladder

How about leaving your present ladder where it is and adding a hinged section of two or three more steps to it? The whole thing would still store where it does now and you wouldn't have to remount and patch the holes of the old ladder location. S/V Dixie
