On Saturday we successfully moved my buddy's "new" boat from Slidell, Louisiana to Moss Point, Mississippi. Leaving the dock at 4:30 am, we traveled across southeast Lake Ponchatrain, transvered the Rigolets without problem, and experienced an almost windless trip across the Mississippi coastline. The ride through the Rigolets (my first) proved to be an excellent trip. What surprised me most was the depth, wide open spaces, and colorful scenery. The new Highway 90 bridge, built after Hurricane Katrina destroyed the earlier one, is plenty high and wide. Although we had to wait for a train, the trestle near Lake Borgne also proved to be easy. Although we saw numerous thunderstorms hugging the coastline to our north, we made the 15 hour passage without one single drop of rain. Well, at least not until we made ready to dock. The bottom fell out as a huge thunderstorm dumped copious amounts of rain accompanied by some scary bolts of lightening. But we tied her up and jumped below. Thanks to all my fellow sailors who provided information about this area. If you would like to see photos, please go to the website noted herein. Dick CD EXPRESS

Thanks!

for sharing the photos. I really enjoyed them. You guys eat well on the boat, eh? Went down to the boat Sat. just to check on things but decided not to sail in the iffy weather. Either no wind, or sudden wind around those storms. Glad you made it that far before they hit.

Nice Report

But your kind of lucky. Lots of times, this time of the year, those biting black flies are really bad in the Rigole's. Particularly if the wind isn't blowing much. But it is a nice trip otherwise. Glad to year you made it with no problems, and managed to avoid the thunderstorms. Lake Bourne and the sound can get a little snotty when one of them catches you out there.

Sounds like you had a great trip. I will be leaving from Moss Point on the 4th of July to "The Lake". Any chance that I can get in touch to ask some questions. David at:wdclampitt@cox.net

Greetings Frank, Yes, the old boat is down at the floating marina. right down the street from the pawn shop(wonder if they have any rowe and chain there?)I looked at the tide reports for Wednesday, looks good if you are going out in the morning.A 2 foot tide.Getting in and out from there is a trick. The shallows, power lines and the railroad bridge.I am not for sure which# slip I am in,it's about 5 from the end on the right.A catalina 27 with the bow toward the pier, old and worn but my baby.I will be on my way towards New Orleans on the 4th of July cause of the tide and my time from work. I guess you sail the river often,if not,be careful and have fun. Let me know how the sail went, David
