On Saturday we successfully moved my buddy's "new" boat from Slidell, Louisiana to Moss Point, Mississippi. Leaving the dock at 4:30 am, we traveled across southeast Lake Ponchatrain, transvered the Rigolets without problem, and experienced an almost windless trip across the Mississippi coastline. The ride through the Rigolets (my first) proved to be an excellent trip. What surprised me most was the depth, wide open spaces, and colorful scenery. The new Highway 90 bridge, built after Hurricane Katrina destroyed the earlier one, is plenty high and wide. Although we had to wait for a train, the trestle near Lake Borgne also proved to be easy. Although we saw numerous thunderstorms hugging the coastline to our north, we made the 15 hour passage without one single drop of rain. Well, at least not until we made ready to dock. The bottom fell out as a huge thunderstorm dumped copious amounts of rain accompanied by some scary bolts of lightening. But we tied her up and jumped below. Thanks to all my fellow sailors who provided information about this area. If you would like to see photos, please go to the website noted herein.DickCD EXPRESS
