strange powder on floor

I bought the boat new in 2005, I keep finding a very fine powder or sawdust on the galley and salon floor. I thought it might be cabinet parts rubbing together, or some sort of woood mite. I have never found any insects on board. I love the boat, but this has me stumped. David, onboard Tropical Silk.

Its called mass production....

I have a H36 and when I started taking it a part to install a few electrical gadgets I found tons and tons of saw dust behind everything. You might consider doing the same...and bring a vaccum cleaner. abe

sawdust

I'm guessing you find a bit more sawdust every time you bash to weather. Of all the things Hunter does well, getting the workers to clean up after themselves is not one. Behind the bulkheads and cabinets a great amount of sawdust never gets vacuumed, probably because they figure we'll never see it. But then it shakes through the cracks when we sail, ultimately ending up in the bilge, potentially clogging the pumps of newer boats. I owned my previous Hunter eight years, sailed it more than 10,000 nautical miles, and was still finding sawdust when I moved my gear into the new boat. The good news here is that it's probably not termites, and you can continue to love your boat.

I too find a lot of sawdust in behind some cabinets but mostly behind cabinets and under the sole. My dealer had a young kid cleaning up the boat at commissioning and pretty much eliminated most of it. Nick

As Long As It Isn't Termites....

...seriously. A friend just had his boat hauled and tented for several thousand dollars. It was past just spraying, tho. Rick D.
