It is a Hunter problem. The boat should be able to withstand the winter on that trailer.

Man, that sucks. They shouldn't sell those things anywhere it snows. The trailer is a close match for the one that my Catalina Capri 16.5 came on, except I had a roller forward of the bunks.

I feel for you. That has got to suck. Nice boat, good money and it breaks all by itself. You did what most people do.You enjoyed your boat and put it way for the winter and it broke all by itself. Sure there are things you could of done that "maybe" could of delayed it, like move south, but there's no guarantee. There's nothing you could of done to prevent it, that's the part that sucks. Hunter should own up to their product and stand behind it 100%. I do hope you are keeping a log with names, dates with discussions and their outcomes and are considering a consult with an attorney. Good luck and don't back down. I'd post the pictures on every sailing site available and mention that this could happen to your Hunter too. Good luck and keep us updated. Some out here want to know Hunter did the right thing by it's customers.

Keep it up,
Ctskip

My 2005 H170 never had any cracks. However, I did store it inside in the winter. I had read the abundant warnings about avoiding any sudden temperature changes or temperature differentials on the hull. They are pretty little boats, but do require a bit more knowledge regarding their care & feeding. Hunter probably should have used a different material that was more forgiving to the average boater. Fast little fun boat though!

That sounds like they recommend against storing them outside in the winter with high temperature fluctuations.

Thanks for the encouragement Ctskip. Hunter hasn't offered an appropriate restitution to this point and I don't plan on giving up any time soon. If have a list of sites that I should join to warn others of this problem, i would love to hear about them. Thanks again.

That's a great idea Prime Time. Any sailing lawyers out there interested in representing a large number of very disgruntled Hunter sailboat owners? I can identify about 2 dozen alone just by browsing through these web archives. Each of them has experienced the same severe cracking of their plastic hulls when the temperature fluctuates.
