ok changing pace here i am building a shopping list for libations for guest on a casual basis ....
wondering what should one have on board for this
.......bourbon?...vodka?....rum?.....blend?....also what beers ....guinness?......domestic?.....imported?........light or regular??????

and what brand do each of you recomend i will be totaling up the answers to have a good balanced choice....bear in mind there will be only 4 bottles of hard liquor and 2 or three beers or ales limited to six of each...this is only so i can be a good host from time to time and do i need to consider wine (that is such a broad spectrum).......your input is valuable to me so give it a thought out recommendation and when all's said and done i may call the bar "The SBO Special"

thanks in advance

Ha! Something close to my heart!

vodka -Absolute,
scotch - Chivas,
rum -Bacardi white,
tequila - jose Cuervo
beer - bud light, Heineken and 3rd Guinness

Those wouldn't be necessarily what I would stock for just myself, but for a party and limited space and budget...

BTW, what time should I be there? I'll bring the mixer!

Silver Rum (Mt. Gay), Dark Rum (Myers's), Spiced Rum (Sailor Jerry and Capt. M), Banana Rum (Malibu), Coffee Liquer (Trader Vic's, required for Buffalo Milk, a rum drink) and Bailey's for use as creamer in coffee, Heinekin and Blue Moon.
Wine drinkers are on their own, but I prefer white cause they'll probably spill some if they have red.
Makes entertaining easy "Sure I got something to drink, what kind of rum do you want?"

Rum-Bacardi Limon
Vodka-Smirnoff
Bourbon-Jim Beam Red Stag
Beer- who drinks that?
Wine-byob

I'd be interested in what cordials do folks include?
Also, at least Bacardi Limon and Smirnoff can be had in plastic bottles.

Three mandatory bottles. Scotch, Bourbon and vodka. I like the cheap stuff. Scotch would be John Barr...very smooth for a $25 1.75 liter. Bourbon.......any mid priced Kentucky. Vodka, who cares......it will mix with anything the ladies like. ;)
At home it's Glenlivet, Makers Mark or Knob Hill and Grey Goose.......but not on the boat.

Stock whatever YOUR favorite is!!
A friend told me that if you make (provide) what you like at least one person will like it. Great advice. That being said, I will bring my own Blue Moon and some sort of "hostess gift/housewarming gift" for you. It's a Southern thing.
Edit: And Oreo balls. I'll bring Oreo balls.

Ahoy there Mates!!!!!
It is about time that we discussed something that we can all agree on...... There must be booze onboard!!!!!
As long as we all use common sense and discretion while entertaining our guests, my preferential list would include plenty of Heineken, a domestic beer, Remy Martin 1736, Jaegermeister, Fireball, Captain Morgan variety of Rum, Limoncello, and any and all nippers I can buy for 99 cents a piece.....
It is December 9th, and Faster Horses is still in the water..... The mast has been unstepped, and it sits in the launch well waiting to be hauled!!!!!!!

Can't wait till SPRING!!!!!

Hey,

How come no one mentioned Gin? I love a post sailing Gin and Tonic (preferably Tanqueray). I also keep Vodka (Grey Goose), Jack Daniels, and Sailor Jerry rum. It all fits nicely in the liquor cabinet of my yacht (doesn't that sound fancy). My boat stays on a mooring, so I leave the booze on the boat, along with a bunch of bottles of water. When I go down to the boat I will bring ice and some cold beer and soda.

OK All you vodka drinkers - I have been drinking and sampling vodkas for many many years, from expensive to moderate priced - and a few really cheap ones in my younger years. Suggest you try Titos. Made in Texas, smooth, moderately priced. I drink it on ice, with garlic olives, little dirty.
For rum all sailors need to have a bottle of Mount Gay onboard - goes with the regatta cap. And of course fixin's for dark and stormy - Goslings rum and ginger beer.
Margaritas with Jose Cuervo.
I usually like a darker beer but will also stock Coors or Stella for a cockpit party - never a lite beer.

It's only a 27 footer, after all ;)

I'll bite.

One usually will recommend the white liquors near the water; gin, vodka, tequila, and rum.

Beefeaters Gin
Tito's vodka
Jose Cuervo Silver tequila
Bacardi Gold rum

Anyone can recommend a wood-cask spirit, so for my tastes, if you insist on a scotch or whisky, toss out the gin, nasty stuff!

Of the brown liquor a I go main-stream, Jack Daniels, Glenlivit, or Crown. You are pretty safe there

A bottle of 6-grapes port is fun to keep aboard, just for a good story: "in a blowing storm, any port is a good port"

Beer? I'm liking Goose Island IPA. Fun enough to seem special but mainstream enough to not offend the Coirs and Bud crowd

You're obviously not a scotch drinker...or you'd never have recommended Chivas over Famous Grouse. And you obviously have no appreciation for gin and tonic with lime, because you completely overlooked gin--Beefeaters of course. As for beer, Michelob Ultra. And what is a Sunday morning watching the sunrise without a mimosa, so always have a few single serve bottles of champagne on ice. One bottle is just enough for two mimosas.
