How to eliminate an odor permanently
So explain the "Wasted effort" of getting the smell out. I had a small leak at a fitting, and cleaned it up, but it still smells.
First step: clean up the spill. As long as any of the source of an odor remains, it's gonna continue to generate odor. A good detergent and water are all that's needed to do this...be sure to rinse well too.
Next: dry out the area.
Now you're ready to eliminate any remaining odor and prevent its return. Bleach, Lysol and other "disinfectants" are a waste of time, effort and money because they can't kill off every last odor-causing bacterium...and only one of the li'l buggers has to survive to multiply into zillions again, especially in the summer heat.
The only product I've found that will completely eliminate ANY odor--even diesel or smoke--is PureAyre
http://www.pureayre.com It's pricy, but it WORKS! The sbo.com chandlery carries it. Put it in a pump garden spray jug and liberally "hose down" every surface, nook and cranny in the affected area. DO NOT RINSE!!! Just let it dry for 24 hours with hatches open so that plenty of fresh air can circulate...even better, turn on a fan too. The stuff is food grade, so it can even be used in a fridge or ice box after a spoiled food disaster.
If any odor returns, you missed a spot.
Btw, Jake...last time I checked my book wasn't limited to one copy per person.
