Well...my wema holding tank monitor let me down. It really stunk!! Any ideas for a replacement?? It's a five screw mount. Has anybody replaced this one?? I also need to access the macerator side of the tank to clean it. Will the back panel in the aft stateroom come out without alot of work? Thanks as always.

The solution to your problem is new sender

Not another Wema--this one: New Providence Marine Tank Monitors & Tank Level SensorsThe sender goes on the outside of the tank and it will work with the Wema Panel and wiring...so you should even have to touch the Wema sender. Call Dennis Firriello on Monday 435-656-0042.

What is it that you need to access the macerator side of the tank to clean?

Did the overflow only go out the vent, or do you have a mess in the boat to clean up? If so, I can save you a lot of wasted effort in getting rid of the odor.

Peggy, are you sure the sensor will work with the WEMA panel??? Last time when you told me that, Dennis ended up making me a deal on a full system!

Weeeelllll...I thought it did...but maybe not.

Obviously I need to call Dennis myself!

But whether the senders are interchangeable or not, putting a new one on the outside of the tank sure beats the socks off pulling one out of a tank to clean it.

Was that the time Dennis had a "Peggie Was Wrong" sale? :)

That was the time! I got a great deal on the system, and didn't have to put another hole in my brand new holding tank. Dennis was great to work with when I had a couple of questions.

Wasted effort

So explain the "Wasted effort" of getting the smell out. I had a small leak at a fitting, and cleaned it up, but it still smells.

All hands below deck

Thanks Peggy. I just called Dennis and we are working out the problem. However.....some did spill in the stern and it is stinking up the aft stateroom! Somebody suggested a little bleach and wash it down will kill the stinky bacteria. Thanks again. I am glad you are out there. I did clear out my vent. I hate to say this...but I did buy your book...can't find it...I think it is on my old boat. Regards. Jake

How to eliminate an odor permanently

So explain the "Wasted effort" of getting the smell out. I had a small leak at a fitting, and cleaned it up, but it still smells.
First step: clean up the spill. As long as any of the source of an odor remains, it's gonna continue to generate odor. A good detergent and water are all that's needed to do this...be sure to rinse well too.

Next: dry out the area.

Now you're ready to eliminate any remaining odor and prevent its return. Bleach, Lysol and other "disinfectants" are a waste of time, effort and money because they can't kill off every last odor-causing bacterium...and only one of the li'l buggers has to survive to multiply into zillions again, especially in the summer heat.

The only product I've found that will completely eliminate ANY odor--even diesel or smoke--is PureAyre http://www.pureayre.com It's pricy, but it WORKS! The sbo.com chandlery carries it. Put it in a pump garden spray jug and liberally "hose down" every surface, nook and cranny in the affected area. DO NOT RINSE!!! Just let it dry for 24 hours with hatches open so that plenty of fresh air can circulate...even better, turn on a fan too. The stuff is food grade, so it can even be used in a fridge or ice box after a spoiled food disaster.

If any odor returns, you missed a spot.

Btw, Jake...last time I checked my book wasn't limited to one copy per person. :)
