I received an e-mail from Steveston Marine in BC, Canada with an ad for this generator. Has anybody tried one yet?

Beware The Noise, Tom

If this is the same generic two-cycle being sold inexpensively around the world, I can tell you that it is a noisy little bugger. Think of an air cooled two cycle outboard running on your transom, and you have an idea. Listen to it run under load before you buy. RD

It's something like this on ebay.

For 120 dollars, you have nothing to lose. Maybe it's not a Honda but it still dose the job it designed for. http://cgi.ebay.com/New-1000-Watt-Amico-Portable-Gas-Generator-Camping_W0QQitemZ330192127496QQihZ014QQcategoryZ106437QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Looks exactly like the ETQ from Pep Boys

I picked one up last winter. It works well enough but mine is a pain to start. Once warmed up and running it's not smoky. It's actually not as loud as you would think either. I've gotten quite a few positive comments on it down at the marina. Probably can't beat it for the money. It also has a 12v charging output. Manny Heres a link for the same generator I have on amazon -

I guess it would depend on what you are

going to be using it for. To charge batteries and power tools at a mooring I guess it would be ok. For sailing comfort I would not use it as they are noisy and smokey, I would rather put the money into a 1200 watts inverter installation to be able to run 120V appliances.
