I have a Cat 27, 1979 model with a wheel steering post. I removed the post and edson plate underneath to install a new plate, old one rusted to nothing and needed replaced. I found the wood that was between the glass layers is rotted and beyond reuse. I need to know if anyone has done this repair and how you went about doing it. I am installing a new support plate, probably stainless steel under the edson plate next to the underside glass for more stability but want to repair the wood prior to this installation.
