Starter and/or solenoid is out on my 1984 C-30 with Universal engine. Not fun taking it out, and not having much luck finding replacement, new or rebuilt. Anyone have any experience in locating suitable motor and/or replacing one would sure be appreciated. Thanks a bunch

Rebuild?

You should be able to have your existing starter rebuilt. I have had good experience with AAA Alternator Service 713-869-5849.

just rebuild it

I just did mine it is an 82. take it in to any starter - alternator shop that rebuilds. they did mine for $85 canadian and in one day. it works great.

Bad experience with rebuilts

My own experience with rebuilt starters has not been good, but I am probably in the minority. If your engine is a Universal Diesel, try a Kubota Tractor dealer. After I explained to the the dealer that it was a three cylinder Kubota engine he a able to match the new starter with my old one. Cost was about $200 new (3 yrs ago). Haven't had a starter problem for 3 yrs. now. It used to be an every year occurrence. Good luck.
