Starboard side bulkhead replacement

I am contemplating buying a C42 MKII but I would like to know that I will be able to fix the starboard bulk head which has be damaged by water intrusion and rotting on the side in forward cabin. (I will find the source of the leak and repair that before I do this of coarse). Does anyone know or think they know how this is installed and how

I am not sure if the shape of the plywood bulkhead follows the shape of the hull like this first picture or if it follows the shape galley counter.

Probably follows shape of hull to provide adequate support & stiffness.

Accuracy in the cut isn't too big of a deal. The channel and cabinetry will hide imperfections. This is work but most of it isn't complicated. Matching the wood finish is the most difficult part. It might never be an exact match

Before buying, I’d pull out the AC vent grille and do some non-destructive investigating with a borescope behind the wood ’sandwich’ which is how Catalina made these bulkheads. Also, pull the drawers below the sink. I think the galley cabinet is glued and screwed to the bulkhead which complicates removal and if it can be done without damaging it as well.

Yea I was trying too look at it from under the sink area and it was hard to tell if there were fasteners. I only saw fiberglass and I am hoping that maybe the bulkhead sat on top of this and not screwed to its side. Care to explain this sandwich? I assumed it was just one board or 3/4 ply or something like that. I will have to take a deeper look.

Ugh!
I think to replace the bulkhead you need to remove the sink cabinet and the locker forward of the bulkhead.
I don't see a mast so I guess there is a compression post there.
It's getting worse.

Yea I am not sure, kind of looks like the sink cabinet and locker are glassed to the hull. That’s why I am hoping that those are part of the structural strength and that the bulkhead fits ontop. The mast is deck stepped and in the forward cabin by the Pullman berth.

With some research I luckily found what I was looking for! I found a photo of a C42 hull liner at the factory. Same configuration as the boat i am looking at. I was right. It may not be to terrible to replace.. The cabinets over the galley probably have to come out. And I dont know perhaps the counter has to come up.

I helped my dock neighbor install AC on his C42 and found when cutting in the hole for a vent in that bulkhead that it consisted of 2 pieces glued and sandwiched together. It was noteworthy as they had split.
