I am replacing my stantions base plates. And I need to know the angle that it should be set at.

I would have them at whatever angle keeps the lifelines just inboard of the toe rail or rub rail.

Angle?

Mine are straight, maybe even a little bowed outboard from vertical at the gunwale. My stanchions, that is. [Easier to do a search with better spelling]

Measure the angle of the deck from level at the point where you will mount the stanchion. You want the stanchion to be vertical. We don't know your boat so we can't give you a good number.

I hope you have some good backing plates for the new bases.

My guess would be that he's replacing the ones on the Irwin 34 that is in his profile. :)

He spelled stantions correctly.

You may wish to look a little further before you accuse people of needing "better spelling".

stan⋅chion   /ˈstæn
ʃən/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [stan-shuh
n] Show IPA
–noun 1.an upright bar, beam, post, or support, as in a window, stall, ship, etc.
–verb (used with object) 2.to furnish with stanchions.3.to secure by or to a stanchion or stanchions.

No such word as Stantion "guest". Maybe if you use it enough they will add it to the dictionary like ginormous.

Stu's post was appropriate as to the ability to effectively search this forum.

Just curious, what language and dictionary are you using. It certainly isn't English. The proper spelling in English is Stanchions, as seen in all of these results. Also, attacking from the anonymity of the internet is pretty cowardly.

Almost all MB's discuss spelling

I didn't want to become a spelling policeman, just thought I'd point out the need for currect spelling for searching purposes, or else we'd never be able to find anything.

We discussed it recently on our board, and some funnies came up. Try this: http://c34.org/bbs/index.php/topic,4903.0.html

It's a spelling bee! Wheee!

Sometimes I spell words so wrong, that there are no suggestions for the right word. It should just say suggestions: go back to middle school

Where are the old stancheions? Or are you going to change the angle of the stancheons to something more favorable for a specific purpose?

With regard to spelling, if everybody can determine the subject the spelling is close enough. mark Twain said that anyone who couldn'y think of more than 3 ways to spell a word was just a bit dull.

I can relate to that!

When/if searching the archives, use all possible spellings, and maybe some we haven't thought of yet.
