Hello mates, Well all is well after the lightning strike. It rained hard yesterday and I noticed a major leak coming into the sliding cabinet above stove on port side. My stantion is leaking badly. I checked and the stantion is very wabbly and the fiber glass has appeared to crack around stantion. I would guess the (wood core?)between the fiberglass is all wet and maybe rotted. So the boat comes out in september and I will still have time to make repairs. Info on new stantion and bedding compound, rot removal etc would be helpfull. Oh I just filled out my lobster report for the summer. I caught 62 keepers this summer. Not bad for a guy with three pots. Hauled em all up by hand. The wife likes the improvement on the upper body. My back is getting a little tired though. Well Gotta go, Joe

If you have compression around the stanchion, rot is likely. The safest bet is to remove the stanchion and try to dig out as much coring as possible. The easier but not-as-good fix is to let the area dry out

Get the stanchion backing plates

CAtalina direct has them. However, if your boat is like mine, there may be a trim strip along the edge of the hull right below the stanchions that prevents you from using them.
