standing rigging?

Hey everyone.... I'm looking into purchasing my first sailboat and figure a Catalina 30 will fit my needs nicely (small enough to single-hand and large enough to have adults onboard with feeling cramped). I'm looking at an '84 (I believe) Catalina 30 that has recently had all the standing rigging replaced....but all the bolts on the bottom of the standing rigging come through the deck and are visible inside the salon. Since this is the only Catalina I've been on, is this the way all Catalina standing rigging is done, or did someone do a cheap job on this? Other than the possible unsightliness of these bolts, the boat appears to be in great shape. But I want as much info as possible before I consider getting the boat surveyed. Those of you on Catalina 30's around that year, please look up and tell me if you see the bolts!?!?! ;) Thanks!! Jim

Bolts

Jim Yes, they have bolts. What they seem to have forgotten is to cap the bolts with acorn nuts, not a big deal for you to do. Stu

Rigging Bolts

Hello Jim, I have a 1983 C30, Great boat. Mine has the bolts also, they probably all do. I guess the previous owner must have put on the acorn nuts. I think that it is recommended to also add a backing plate, (I think I saw that somewhere), this is one of my future projects. Take care, and best of luck Jack Bollinger Hey Jude #3155

thanks

Thanks for the info! Yes, the bolts have the acorn nuts on 'em...so that's not a problem. I'm glad I found this forum. If I buy the boat, I'm sure I'll be lurking/posting here a lot!! ;) Keep the wind in your sails! Jim
