I have a 42' catalina. I have the original documentation including a drawing that lists the wire lengths attached. I need to pre-order the supplies to replace the standing rigging. This is still the same rig as Catalina built it with an isomat NG80 mast and NG2 masthead. Can someone confirm that these documented wire lengths are the final cut lengths before adding terminals? Is there any reason why I could not just add a foot or so to each of these lengths to safely pre-order the wire (assuming the same size terminals are used)?

I ordered rigging for my New Design 22 from CD. Everything fit perfectly. They should have exactly what you need for your boat.

I believe you need to order a separate back stay but unlike my kit which spells that out online, your kit does not address that so I would check with tech services to confirm if that is separate.

My last boat had different length side stays event though they should've been the same. It's better to send your rigging in to have the lengths matched. CD was the lowest cost for my C30
Thank you for your response. Catalina Direct does not make a 42' kit last I checked. I am confounded by the suggestion that the original rig specs somehow change merely due to the passage of time. And, if something like were true, how can DC sell a kit for an application that is suspect as soon as it leaves the factory? They have two kits available. One is for the C-42 Standing Rigging Set Trim-2-Fit <-'97 w/NG80 Mast. It does not specify the NG2 masthead. I'm hoping tech services can confirm for you if it will work.

Thank you for responding. That your boat was built with different length shrouds for shrouds in matching positions is fascinating. I'd be interested to know if your shroud's length matched what Catalina documented. While measuring the old cables is the gold standard. I'm also fascinated by the implication the Catalina cannot be relied on to sell a boat with accurate documentation. If they can't, why would they document any specs?
Thank you George. I checked CD, and I see that they now have the kit offered. Thanks for inspiring me to circle back to CD. I have a call into CD to hopefully get more details, such as how they can guess at the wire lengths without a measurement. Did you have to unstep the mast and provide measurements of the old wires before ordering the kit?
My last boat was an O'Day. All boats are hand built and hulls shift, twist and stretch a bit over time. This is why it's best to retune your rigging 24 hours or so after the boat has been launched
I replaced the standing rigging before I ever sailed her and did not measure the old rigging prior to order. I ordered the standard kit and everything fit perfectly. With the amount of adjustment available in the turnbuckles, there should be enough "wiggle room" to bring the rig into proper tension. But, discussing your concerns with CD is absolutely the way to go. They've always been supper helpful and more than patient with my many questions over the years. lol
