Standing rigging swaging .125 wire

This is done with a hand powered hydraulic hex swager. I know from recent berating on the fb that it should have been roll swaged.

What are your thoughts on this? Perhaps if I swaged it the full length?
Will it work? Will I die? It's on a 21 aquarius
I chose the hex swage after watching videos of it being done this way. Was I mislead?

They look like good swages, and, being doubled, should have enough mechanical strength for a 21' boat. I wonder, though , if the hex shape of the swage might allow some moisture to intrude into the fitting. Add freezing temps and a cracked fitting could result.

They look OK but ya might want to offset the next ones so the flats of one line up with the ridges of the next one

The acid test would be to test the cable with tension. You could mark the point where the cable exits the fitting then suspend a weight for a time. If nothing moves, call it good.

In a former life I made cables for aircraft. I used an impact swager and tested the cables with a tension device.

I need to replace my shroud. I am big on DIY. Where did you get the swager?

It came from ebay for $70 same thing can be had from harbor freight. I made a paint line at the top of the fittings. I figured a light sail and check the marks will test it and give me a visual reference for a long time as to if it's moving or not.

Harbor Freight is one of my favorite stores. Make those fittings a regular inspection point and all should be fine. Thanks.

Additional: I didn't realize there were tools at reasonable prices. They aren't pro quality but will do what I need. This looks like a good winter 22/23 project and I will have the tool when finished.

Gotta love a project. I have 3 going right now. Just finished this starwind up. The aquarius is just going to made sailable again. I have a catalina 25 in dry storage right now. I need to finish the bottom and do some work on the mast. It was dropped unstepping and it bent at the halyard winch. So next fun task is How To Straighten a Mast!

I dropped my mast unstepping it too. The problem with the 170 is that the cables are tight until the mast is halfway up. Someone is supposed to hold the mast while you set it in the tabernacle. I was introduced to adjusters that have a release. Now I can rig everything solo.

@Tater

mug you legthen the topping lift, you could throw the line around to the front while walking toward holding onto it.
Although you now have adjusters now, your description of the tightness of the shrouds at half way up is too much

Hi Dave,
The boat came rigged tight. I questioned this and discussed it over on the Hunter side. There were various solutions to the "2nd crewman" but none were easily workable. I talked to stickinthemud57 on the phone and he realized the problem. He recommended the adjusters from Duckworks. I slackened the shroud in the process of installing the adjusters. All is well. Thanks.
