I see a Standard Horizon GPS/Chartplotter model CP150 for about $399. Looks like a good "basic" unit for about half of others. Anybody have this or had experience with this unit or standard horizon?

Just bought one

at the boat show for 360 plus tax. I like it a lot, especially for the price. I obviously haven't used mine yet, but have played with them in the stores all last season. I like the cursor control more than other brands. Also, the screen resolution is much better than the last generation Garmin, for example. Finally, the size is perfect fit with existing instruments at the helm. Remember that to have full charting capability, you have to buy a C-Map cartridge for another $199 or more. The base unit only has a crude map without aids to navigation. I do my primary navigation on a PC with Cap'n and Maptech charts. I'm going to interface that to the CP150. I'll be able to create waypoints and routes on the PC and upload them to the 150, which will be at the helm. So I can get the easiest route creation, then follow them with nice unit at the helm. The new Garmin and Raymarine units are bigger and very nice, but way more expensive.

Me too

I just installed a CP150 w/C-Map chart chip, on my boat. I love it! Also, while "fishing" the antenna wire through the wheel guard it snagged and I pulled the end off. I called Standard and told them of my stupid mistake and they said,"No problem, we'll mail you a new one and when you get it mail yours back to us using our UPS account". WOW! I was floored. I thought I would have to pay for shipping and for the repair. What a great company. Bob

Hate to be Negative

I hate to toss cold water on positive statements but I bought one of the first Standard CP150 which turned out to be a "bummer". Previously, I was using a Garmin 45XL. I sail the Chesapeake Bay and used both units at the same time. The CP150, using the separate mounted antenna could not keep contact with the satelites while the Garmin never lost contact. This happened time and time again. I returned the unit to my supplier for full credit. Just hope that you have better results. Note that mine was one of the first units and they could have made changes in the unit since then. Bob
