3 weeks!

The first boat of the year left our marina on Sat....he was anxious to get to his home in NC...he purchased the boat in Jan. He is in the service and wanted to get the boat home before any possible military deployment....I felt for him and as I watched him glide down the river. ..Just then I wanted to flush the antifreeze out of my lines and head on out also! But as old man winter is still hanging around April 1st is our weekend!..we all have cabin fever and cant wait to get back on the water!!.come on spring!

Easy this year....

Just waiting for Hunter to deliver my new 386. No clean up, oil change, wax, wash, rig blah blah blah. Still, hanging around the marina during Spring commissioning is a high point in the season. Old friends, new ones, all with a common interest (obsession ?). I'll be up there helping everyone else until my new one arrives. Jeff

Spring Sailing

We hope to bring our Hunter to the port around 15th of April . In juli we hope to go back to Elba Italy a 1000 miles drive but beautiful sailing on the Mediteranien sea. Also we sail here every weekend with good weather. For all the Hunter-sailers, we wish them a good sailing year, with nice wind and a lot of sun.

Thank God For Global Warming

I'd hate to see what an old fashion winter would be like. My doctor says that reading about my passion will keep the voices in my head away. Actually spring must be coming, it was only -28 C last night. Last week it was -40 C. Took this shot when I got home from work today. Yes, thats a 7 foot heap of snow behind me, at the front door. Boats were built to stay in the water

I will be sailing as soon as weather permits, I can't wait! I leave the boat in the water all year long. I pull the boat the first week of July, right before the fourth. I do the bottom work and then back in the water. I then have the cleanest bottom of all my sailing friends. Fiberglass will out live us all! Boats were built to float, not to be put on stands. I learned this from traveling to the Caribbean Islands. They keep their boats in all year long. Why can't we? The answer is; yes we can, as long as you can keep an eye on your boat. Six months of sailing is just not long enough. I think your boat will live longer and so will you because we live to sail! See you on the water Paul

APRIL 15

Our new H 410 is scheduled for launch by April 15. Plan to spend April 16 through 27 recuperating from my 31st tax season and getting to know "Dreamboat". Last year it was so warm I was sailing on the Chesapeake in shorts and a t-shirt on the 16th. Weather gods are you listening - how about making it two in a row?

Chopping out the ice

First, I have to chop out all the ice from the cockpit of the boat. Second, with temperatures still hovering at zero, I'll just have to hope that the ice on the lake melts before the 4th of July (the ice is 18 inches thick this weekend).

After April 15

I too am looking forward to completing another tax season (26 for me). CPAs measure spring by April 15, not some day in March like most other mortals. I have a backed up honey-do list (imagine that) and meetings scheduled that will delay my getting the boat in the water until the first of May. I will however be sailing (or is that working) on the boat in the driveway before that. Many happy returns.

Blister repair & Barriercoat

I have about 200 small blisters to repair, barriercoat, and bottom paint to do. The marina advised me that as long as a moisture check didn't reveal an unacceptable amount of moisture I only have to wait for appropriate tempratures to make the repairs and paint the bottom. It was out of the water for 6 months or so before I bought the boat last fall. Then its day sails, weekend cruises, and a couple of sailing vacations. Every chance we get. I'm getting spring fever! Soon, very soon

We are talking about hauling our sails and lines down to the boat this weekend. We have had an unusually warm and snow/ice free winter this year so we could get going any time now. We have a few projects to clear up before we take her out and we need to flush the water and head systems which will likely be done in mid-April in case winter tries to make a belated appearance but the engine could be run now so short afternoon trips are quite possible. The potential for very cold weather is about nil in mid-March but we could still see feet and feet of snow. Here's hoping for continued blue skies! Very likely we will first sail in mid April if the good weather continues. I can't wait to go play on the water.... Andante Wauquiez G33

We leave our boat in the water year around here in the Pacific Northwest. They even stay fairly clean with all the liquid sunshine we enjoy throughout the winter months. Our boat goes into the yard the first week of April for a bottom cleaning and painting. Our first yacht club cruise is the week of April 21. Can’t wait to start cruising again.

As well as the standard spring comissioning, as soon as the boat hits the water (early April I hope) I have a list of electrical upgrades that I will work on through the early season: 1) Install separate starter battery (Optima) with charging combiner and remotely operated battery switch. 2) Install battery monitoring (amp-hour) meter and shunt. 3) Install gas (propane) detector and shut-off. 4) Install larger alternator and smart regulator. 5) Install XM satellite radio system. 6) Install a small voltage sensitve relay (VSR) to act as an automatic switch that will turn the refrigerator on whenever the battery is being charged (engine or at the dock). I am also making wider teak steps for the swim ladder. Then there is a new windlass, and air conditioning to think about. It just never ends... Derek

Install Lazy Jacks, some new lines, engine maintaince and haul/paint bottom. Then head out there.
