I just finished refitting my '84 Cat 30. It is spinnaker rigged with a fairly good light wind sail and I'm looking for info on flying the kite on this boat. Haven't done it yet. Any suggestions on where to look. Thanks

Spinnaker

Roger: Basics for spinnaker operation can be found in various books on sails....Most any of them are good, just pick one and look under spinnakers.....You don't mention if you are using an asymmetrical or symmetrical chute....The symmetrical is more difficult and has less room for error....If you are in light airs I would recommend using very light weight sheets....This allows for the best control and doesn't weigh down the clews....For a direct answer to you question try Tom Whidden's "The Art and Science of Sails".

Try racing

I can't believe how much one can learn being crew racing 'round the buoys. Flying the chute can be quite intimidating, untill you gain some experience. Race captains are allways looking for crew- it's easy to hitch a ride. One or two races will give you quicker real world lessons than you could ever get from reading.
