Spinnaker Rigging

I recently purchased a 1989 Catalina 30 Tall and have not used the spinnaker yet. Can anyone give me some advise on how to raise it. It is a poleless spinnaker/drifter. I've got rollerfurling and do not know how to raise it. On my previous Ericson, I ran it up the forestay. With the rollerfurling, I'm kind of perplexed. Any thoughts for this rookie?

I think...

I have a racing spinnaker so I am not positive, but I have heard of something that slips over the furler (something about big beads on a rope) or something similar. Good luck.

Try this..

Paul, I copied this from the "Cruising Direct Sails" page on using a Gennaker (poleless spinnaker): -Tackline- Before hoisting your new sail, set up the tack. Your Gennaker has been supplied with a sailcloth strap, snap clip and tackline already installed at the tack. If you are using your Gennaker with a bare wire headstay, snap the clip to the headstay and rig the tackline to the bow. If you have a furling headsail, wrap the supplied strap around the furled sail and rig the tackline down to the bow. A good rule for tension on the tackline is to leave ienough slack to allow the sail to clear the bow pulpit. -Sheets Run the sheets for the sail before ;you hoist it. ...The gennaker uses two sheets run outside all other rigging. Tie one end of the two sheets to the clue of the sail, then run one sheet around the bow, outside the headstay and shrouds to the opposite aft corner of the boat. The other sheet runs directly form the clew aft outside the lifelines to a turning block located on the toe rail just forward of the stern pulpit. -Hoisting When it's time to hoist the sail, turn downwind and fully ease the mainsail. The eased main will create a blanket and allow you to hoist the gennaker before it fills with air. Once the sail is hoisted, point the boat in the direction in which you'd like to go, and trim the sail until it fills. -Dousing When the time comes to take the sail down, bear away on a square run so the sail collapses behind the main. When the sail has collapsed, you can release the tackline and strap. After releasing the tack, stand forward of the shrouds and gather the foot of the sail. With the foot under control and the sail blanketed behind the main, lower the halyard and stuff it into the bag or the foredeck hatch." Note 1: on rigging the tackline, there is an illustration showing how it runs through a small block attached to the deck (right behind the furling drum) then aft towards the cockpit. This would allow you to adjust it after it has been set. Note 2: remember, you can't tack with this sail. The sheets are rigged outide the headstay. Hope this helps.
