Spinnaker Pole

I have a 309 with an asymmetric spinnaker but would like to use it beyond say 130 degrees. I would like to pole it out from the mast. But I have not been able to figure out a way of attaching a pole to the mast. Are there kits? Has anyone played around with this? Its just for local racing. At the moment we just attach sheets to both tack and leech and fly it free. Works OK but I think we loose a lot of power by it blowing around, that could be transferred into boat speed if we had it poled. Appreciate any thoughts from the forum.

Our rigger had this made, we added a kicker and used spare halyard as topper for the pole
Works well

You could add a track with a spinnaker car on the front of the mast. Many companies offer that and it's easy to install. Google it

Agreed.
Thanks yes that would be a good option.
However, adding a track for the pole involves riveting/screwing it to the mast and I am concerned about interfering with the inmost mainsail furling. Do you have inmost furling and does anyone know if you can add a spinnaker track to the mast without damaging it?

Hi Pompardi, that looks neat. Was there any concern about interfering with the inmast mainsail furling with the rivets to attach the ring to the mast?
What sort to spinnaker do you fly? And where did you buy it?

We checked the selden mast diagram before drilling into the mast , the area at the front is hollow except for the cable conduit .
We use the pole to goose wing the headsail , most of our racing is non spinnaker so we don't have one.

Poling out an asym is a great idea for reaching. We do it all the time, even when racing.

On a 30+ foot boat you for sure want a ring on a track. While reaching the loads are very high, and could rip a single riveted ring off the mast.

Remember, the loads on TACK of a spinnaker are much higher than on CLEW of a poled out genoa.
