Pull it - if you can plug it!
I have Datamarine for speed log and depth. When I bought my boat, I noticed that the paddlewheel was stuck with bottom paint and the depth transducer was simply painted over also. During checkout, the depth worked, but obviously the speed didn't. When the boat was delivered to our lake, the depth worked for about 10 minutes ... then went blank. Also, the paddlewheel fell out in my hands when I tried to work it loose. Oh well ... time to open the wallet. The paddlewheel had a broken paddle, which I attribute to being caught on the sling or broken in transport. I don't know if the paint over the depth transducer affects anything but I bet the sling could have damaged that as well.Anyway, wanting to take no chances after spending a couple bills for new transducers (they work great and were easy to install), I pulled the 2 new ones and used a plug (supplied by Datamarine) and the old transducer before putting the boat on hard for the winter. It took less than 5 minutes and why throw money away? *!
