What can I say except that this past Saturday was a fantastic day for sailing in this part of the dear ole South. Sorry guys and gals up north :( but some of my sailing buddies and I took advantage of it....As a matter of fact, I went sailing three days straight...Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Okay, I know I'm bad for posting this.....but admit it....you need the fix! Ah, I can still smell the saltwater..... Check out the other videos as well.... Enjoy.....

You deserve as many good days as you can get

I responded to after Katrina. After what I saw, I think you guys deserve endless primo days down there. Best sailing wishes to all of you.

Nice Job!

As I sit here this morning in Southern New England there is freezing rain outside. I've already had to go out and shovel off the driveway this morning. Up North in Maine (I'm heading there on Friday) they are having 2'-3' of the white stuff. So you have done me a favor and taken me away from this God-forsaken weather and down to the warmer lattitudes with this great video. Thanks. :)

Snow drifts suck

Thanks, I needed that! Just came in from shoveling (too much snow for the blower) a 3 foot drift out of my driveway. Thanks for sharing your good days.

Really Great Flick!

During this time period when my boat is covered with a tarp, it's been cold and raining day after day, It's nice to see that someone can get out there and enjoy a good sail. In fact, judging by the other boats out there sailing, there were some others enjoying it too! The background music was very appropriate and the credits at the end added a touch of class. Look out Hollywood!

Summary of eqt/software/tips for vids?

Dick I am greatly encouraged by your consistency at producing such fun videos..... Almost to the point that I may give it a try too, almost. If you would please briefly share a few tips and summarize the eqt, software, resizing for youtube that you use to give us such nice sail vids I'd really appreciate it. Maybe you have a website where you've laid it all out and archive your links to your vids in one spot? We carry a small DV cam onboard but downloading, editing and resizing the vids with overlaid audio is something I havn't gotten to. I'm sure it's pretty straightforward and seems like a good wintertime project. The trick (which you've mastered)is not doing a boring "home movie" like I'm usually known for*zzz. You're getting a real following around here so keep up the good work. I can imagine how tough it must be sailing so much:). Thanks, Michael

Your comments are all welcome.....

While making this video Sunday night I was really hoping to lift some spirits with it....and that's exactly what happened. Thanks for your positive comments...I figured some folks, however, might be upset with it. As I type this message I'm sitting on my friend's sailboat in the harbor...we're visiting after having just enjoyed dinner. It's turned quite cold here with temperatures expected to be near freezing tonight. With the heater already on at my boat, which is just across the harbor, I'll be staying the night in warmth and comfort. Again, thanks for the comments....as the sailing improves here I'll make more videos and send 'em your way.... Dick CD EXPRESS

More

Dick- Just take your camera and duct tape it on your helm and go out sailing and get some more footage. Mix it up with some appropriate tunes and post, please. Rob Hessenius

looks like fun

Hi Dick, Enjoyed the video. Which marina do you use? We sail out to Cat Island alot. This year we are planning on a two week trip to Pensacola and will be island hopping all the way. Do you go out to Horn alot? Is the horseshoe a good place to anchor? Thanks.

Hey Dick, you need a Forum of your own!

It's cold and crummy up here in Michigan...all I'm doing is listening to a lot of Jimmy Buffett, Club Trini, and Kenny Narrell (steel drums)...but it isn't helping. Your video's are excellent!

To Answer Chuck & Soling 42....

Chuck-Although I live in Mobile, Alabama, my boat is docked in Pascagoula, Mississippi, about 30 miles from my house. But since I work at Northrop Grumman Ship Systems in Pascagoula, I usually spend several nights during the week on the boat. Specifically, she's docked in the city marina, one of the best places to keep a boat in the area. Horn Island, a long slender and wooded island off the coast of Mississippi, is a wonderful destination for sailors. Although Hurricane Katrina hit it hard, destroying approximately 1-1/2 miles on the eastern end and severely damaging the west end, not to mention killing most of the trees and vegatation, its still a great place to visit. The "horseshoe" is a good place to anchor especially when winds are southerly. However, be careful with winds from any other direction. Just east of Horn is Sand Island, a small manmade spot of land on the west side of the Pascagoula Ship Channel. Across the channel to the east is Petit Bois Island, another long slender island protected, like Horn, by the National Seashore Parks System. Like Horn, there are many great anchoring spots on the north side, again, in southerly winds only. Since you plan to sail to Pensacola, you may want to watch one of my other videos on YouTube....May 2006 Sailing Trip. Here's the link.... Soling42-I use Windows Movie Maker....that's all! While sailing I take hundreds of photos and some videos with my digital camera....sit down at the computer and play...and since I sail with a bunch of great guys who also take and share photos, I incorporate them into my movies....I'm glad you like them. Dick

Chuck, when are you planning on going Pennsacola way. I go over that way quite a bit, will be helping a friend take his H36 over there in mid April. Probably the 17 or 18th. Drop me a line and maybe we can hook up, if not on this trip maybe another one.

Mr Dixon, what a video

Thanks for the info. Sure did enjoy your video. We are planning on going in July. We used to bare boat out of Little Sabine before Ivan and are looking forward to the visit. We are planning on going slow and enjoying the time off. Planning on two weeks. Anyway. Thanks again for the video. Great job.
