You are correct Stu, about the Low disruption.

I’m sitting on the coast looking out on the ocean.

Mist, fog, and rain showing up to disturb the sunshine that as dominated the last two weeks.

The Neutral ENSO current in the southern pacific creates this changeable weather pattern.

I motored from Rugged Point to Queen Cove in Esperanza Inlet today. With 5 knots of wind the iron genny was pressed into service.

The swell kicked up by the big offshore low was impressive. I was looking 6' up at the wave crests while standing in the cockpit. I'm 2' above the water and 6'4. About halfway there I was questioning my judgement.

The west coast of Vancouver Island is no place for the foolhardy.

I'm in Friendly Cove this evening. A stretch of the legs is scheduled for tomorrow morning. Or as soon as the rain backs off a bit. I stayed warm today but I was soaked through. Wet wet wet.

Better weather and NW winds are supposed to return on Wednesday. We are in Ahousat and are looking to sail for Barkley Sound Wednesday. You are catching up but there is lots to see between us.

I'm sure hoping for a dry spell.

I'm shooting for Ucluelet by the weekend and hope to spend 4-5 days in Barkley Sound. I have a date with the Travel Lift in Port Townsend on September 2. I could have planned better, sure. This should be a whole summer project, like June to September. Even then I'd miss stuff.

The visit to Hot Springs Cove was excellent. I got up early and spent an hour in peaceful solitude. First though, was the mosquito feeding station.

Then the hot springs. Now bear in mind that my home is in Idaho, which has an amazing selection of hot springs. These are right up at the top of the list.

I spent the day in Tofino, wandering around and picking up a few essentials. Dinner was at Big Daddy's Fish Fry. Oh my that place is good! Off to Ucluelet tomorrow. Leaving late morning so the breeze can fill in a bit.

It was a glorious sail for a good part of the trip from Hot Springs Cove to Tofino yesterday. 12-13 kts, 70° AWA, 1' chop, no swell to speak of. Oh, and clear blue sky. It was one of those days.

You came straight down on the outside of Flores? Missed all the good stuff on the inside passage.

Yeah, I know. I chose to take the day of glorious sailing, which have been a bit sparse. Plus, I'm hauling out in Port Townsend September 2, so I'm taking that into consideration. I'll spend 4-5 days in Barkley Sound as consolation. I won't suffer.

I know. I am itching and I got to scratch before I go crazy.
