At anchor in the Walkem Islands, Johnstone Strait, BC. I have long wanted to circumnavigate Vancouver Island. There's still a long way to go and a lot to see. but I might pull it off this summer.

I've met some nice people. I did 4 dives in Campbell River, which was amazing. These are the real colors.

I'll spend a few days in the Broughtons before heading to Port Hardy.

I have been planing the same. Just now nearing the opportunity again. 2026 is in my sights. Off in June back in August. Something to look forward to. Certainly Michael has shown the way.

You’re a long way up north. You see evidence of the Tsunami flooding your bay last night?

Thought I felt a bit of rocking around 0130 but it wasn't anything stronger than earlier in the evening. Hard to tell, really.

There's a lot to update. I'll put together a post with pictures in the next day or so. I'm in Winter Harbor and planning to spend 4-5 days in Quatsino Sound.

Congrats. You’re around the north end. It’s down hill from there.

I'm anchored for the evening in Smith Cove. I had a lovely downwind sail to Port Alice. But the time I got there it was blowing over 20 kts. I anchored off of the park long enough to empty a jug of diesel into the tank and then headed out of the inlet. The weather is forecast to turn soon and I'd rather not round Brooks Peninsula into a SE gale. I'll pick up fuel, water and maybe propane in Winter Harbor tomorrow and then tackle the Peninsula first thing Wednesday. Wherever I end up, I'm likely to be there a while, as the SE winds are predicted to continue for several days.

If Brooks Bay gets too rough Klaskino Inlet and Klaskish Inlet are very protected. Once around Brooks both Columbia Cove and the Bunsbys offer good protection. There are probably many others but I’ve used these ones.
We will be leaving Hootla-Kootla tomorrow for further up Sydney Inlet and not sure of cell signals until Tofino.

I rounded Brooks Peninsula yesterday. It did not disappoint. The afternoon was going well until the wind and waves started to build. About 7 miles offshore, the wind hit 30 knots and the waves got bigger and steeper. I was starting to lose control surfing down the waves, so I decided to run for Kyuquot Sound. That's when the dinghy let go.

I need to learn a new language, since I used up all the curse words I know in English. It took 4 or 5 tries, but the dinghy was rescued.

Photo below was taken leaving Klaskino Anchorage.

John, windyty shows heavy SE winds on the west side of Vancouver Island. And here I thought you were our weather guru...
That's what I'm seeing as well. I'll likely stay in Kyuquot until Saturday. Right now that's when the wind shifts again.

Yes Stu… It is usually like the BAHA, a down wind down ocean swell slide to the Juan De Fuca. But it is Mother Nature. She has a mind of her own. Mermike did say he was trying to sneak up on a Circumnavigation. Such actions may have provoked the winds of First Nation. That is way out of my control. That is why I urge caution for al who are considering a rounding of the massive known as Brooks Peninsula. The waters there have their own weather.

Congrats Mike on your successful passage around the Brooks Peninsula massive that has plants on it which date back to prehistoric times.
