I do not believe in coincidences. There seems to be a problem with the plating process around the letter "M". What is your take on it?

Behind the cover have any soot. If it wasn't the plating could it be an electrical issue?

I have rust trying to form in the same place, on both of mine, two months after installation.

I recently cleaned with Barkeepers Friend and then wiped down with Sheila Shine.

No question this is a manufacturing defect.

A little off topic and I haven't looked at these yet...what is the locking mechanism for the covers? Is it just spring compression against a gasket?

Mine have been installed for about 2 years with exposure that entire time and they look like new. The only problem I have had is with one cord where the blue indicator LED stopped working. They sent me an entire new cord priority mail.

I have a rust mark on my cover also. It showed up within two weeks of installation. The components are supposed to be 316 stainless and that would mean this is a contamination issue in the manufacturing process.

Where was the cover plate manufactured. I have seen stainless steel from China and there are impurities in some depending on the manufacturer. Thinking out of the box but may be off.

Jim Seamans, Did Joan and you make it to the bus yesterday. I will call more often little brother.

Got out today to have a look. The cap still like new after nine months.

Must have been a bad batch of caps. Good to hear they stand behind their product.

I contacted SmartPlug and they said they found that a small batch of their first run of inlet covers were made with 304 stainless steel and not the 316 stainless that is their standard specification.

They're replacing both of mine when we return from the Abacos in May.

Quick response and excellent customer service.

Jim, did they send you new plug assemblies or just the cover?

They sent brand new complete plugs. Also didn't ask for the old ones back. Now that is a company standing behind their product....
