Small patch of rust on keel

Heya,

So I was diving below the boat and found a small patch of rust (about the size of my hand) where the antifouling has come off.

It's just surface rust (I cleaned it back).

My question is how bad is it to leave it for a month. I'm headed to Spain and will take about 1 month to get there where we will be taking it out of the water and redoing the antifoul and a bunch of work.

Will it be ok? Or should I try and patch it under water. Is that ever possible?!

Thanks in advance for the advice

Should not be a problem. Iron keels have that happen from time to time. Once you haul you can clean it, apply some barrier coat, and antifouling over that. In the meantime; there’s still plenty more iron left.

Should not be an issue. Once the initial layer of rust forms it helps to protect the underlying iron. Think about all those shipwrecks out there for years that still exist.
