Local marina the best place
Without specific questions to your overall problem I don’t believe you’re going to get much help here.
After looking up your profile and MapQuesting your location, I see a marina across the river from Madisonville with a number of sailboats. What I suggest to you is go over there and inspect all of the boats in the 25 to 35 foot range and study the rigging, most of the boats smaller than 22 to 25 feet will not have some of the sail controls your small boat has. Larger than 35 feet will have many more ropes and rigging and may become confusing.
Asking questions at the local marina is the best starting point. You’re going to be surprised at the passion sailboater's have for this sport that you never experienced in your years as a powerboat captain. Seek out a couple fellows working on their boats by themselves, most of them may look busy but, from experience I will tell you many of them would rather talk about their boat or sailing than work on them, especially the older fellows. You’ll also, find that most of these most experienced larger boat sailor’s will never turn down an offer to go sailing on a small boat.
