Sleeping on the slant

Is it just me, or does anyone else get the feeling that the v-berth is lower at the aft end than at the forward end. Feels like sleeping "downhill." If it's not just me (and my wife) has anyone come up with a good fix. Stuffing extra blankets, etc., while marginally effective, is less desirable than a permanent fix. Happy New Year!!

Really?

I never noticed it. Get a level

I get the same feeling

We own a 27 and noticed the same thing. I have stacked extra pillows, but like you I wonder if there is a better solution.

Aw man!!!

I just got into an argument with my girlfriend about that. I assured her the berth was level. I guess chalk up another one for her :(

Yup it's slanted

Hey Steve, I, We think ours is slanted too, I've talked about getting some more foam and cutting it on a long slant to help get proped up. Otherwise I haven't heard of a real fix. Dean

Here's a fix

Get some really big-as* anchor chain. That should put a good amount of weight in the bow... :) LaDonna

Another Thought

You're right, there is an incline. We've managed to sleep pretty good, anyway, simply because we're tired! But, we have also turned ourselves around on occasion with our head at the bow, and, yes, we "fit" and feel better in the morning. We've considered the wedge of foam or a plywood ramp as the solution, too, though. Sort of low on the list. Rod Worrell S/V Dixie

I agree

I agree, it is slanted enough to be uncomfortable, and we have been sleeping with head to bow. Besides its a lot easier getting in and out that way! My real problem, since I'm 6-3 is fitting in the V-berth. I wish it was a few inches longer...I guess that's one of the compromises that make the main cabin and cockpit so large!

Thanks, everyone!!

Thanks to all of you for your input. I'm 6'3" also, and my wife is 5'2". We've never tried sleeping heads forward, but will try it. Debbie is short enough that she would need a step stool if I raised the aft end of the v-berth. Adding enough weight to change the angle of the v-berth would lower the bow several inches and would probably significantly change the handling characteristics. Not a good idea, in my opinion. Sailing "downhill" probably isn't what Frank Butler had in mind (but then neither was sleeping downhill). We've used extra blankets and pillows, but I'm pursuing a permanent fix. Once (if?) I figure it out, I'll post it. Thanks again for all your ideas. I appreciate it. Happy sailing!

mine to

If we are spend ing more then a weekend on board. I fill the water tank under the bow I move some heavey things up frount and my bigger kids sleep on the table inthe center and the dog rolls up on the shelf in the vee .It helps to be on the hook the anchorhelps pull the frount down. And if you are low on diesel the sleeping gets real good.
