Hey all, I need to replace all the thru-deck fittings and want them to be watertight. I have a bunch of the good exterior 100% waterproof silicone II sealant and am wondering if it is as effective as 3m 4200?
Is this a marine silicone or a house type?..... I have a bunch of the good exterior 100% waterproof silicone II sealant ...
You mean mildly recommended, at least by those in the know. Butyl is highly recommended... life caulk will work, and do an OK job, but it does harden and does not remain elastic and sticky like buytl. This means if over stressed it will fail, where buytl will stretch far more, and reseal when the overstress event ends, even if it happens in 20 years after installation.Hollyweirdos said:Thanks again for the insight. I think I am going to use the lifecalk stuff. Easily available and comes pretty highly recommended.
