Shore Inlet Water Connection

We are new to us owners of a 2008 Hunter 38. We needed to replace the cockpit shower and noticed the PO had disconnected the cold water supply to the shower. Tracing the disconnected line we noticed the cold line was going to a on/off valve, then to a T-connection that tied in the shore inlet to the line that runs to the water manifold. Unfortunately, we do not have access to the PO and was wondering if there is any reason for the on/off valve (beyond the obvious of turning the water off to the cockpit shower)?

Maybe the PO had a leak in the cockpit shower line from the higher pressure from the shore water connection.

Congratulations on your new sailboat!!

The shore water supply should be tied into the water pump discharge side. Do not see what function the on/off valve upstream of the cockpit shower serves since it has its own on/off water valves unless as Stu Jackson points out. My Hunter 46 has shore water connection which I connect a potable water hose with quick disconnect fittings to bith sides. Really love the shore water supply.
