I'm with "peachykeen". I use the Teflon packing, and can replace it without hauling.....if I ever have to; it's been in the boat since 2009, done a couple of ocean crossings, run the engine about 250 hours per year, always lock the transmission in revers when sailing. Otherwise, no muss no fuss. I also have a generous, contained, sump that contains all the drip water and can hold all the engine oil/ coolant if it has to.
