Hey Travis

That's a great picture! We're planning to do a five-month cruise to "Southeast" in 2007, but probably won't get beyond Glacier Bay and Sitka. Am curious about how much of the year you can sail out of Seward? Gary Wyngarden S/V Wanderlust h37.5

Looks Familiar

Sure looks like Aialik Bay to me.I kayaked there a few years ago. I'll bet the sailing would be really fine,

Yep, Aialik bay.

That photo was taken while anchored in Abra cove at the head of Aialik bay in late september of this year. So in answer to the other question....about mid march through september. Sometime in september the weather in the gulf of Alaska starts to get pretty nasty. However, with a good weather window there is no reason you can not day sail year round in resurection bay. The only thing other than cold that you have to be carefull of is very rapidly changing weather. Last week when we drove down to Seward to check on the boat there still was no snow and the temp was in the mid 40's.

Just Up There

Hey Travis. We were up in Seward for several days late September to catch the all day Holgate glacier cruise and enjoy the sights and sounds of Seward. We walked every dock and were amazed by the number of sailboats. We loved the Island Packet sales dock! I understand that the bay will not freeze and even saw a few liveaboards while there. The sailing has to be fantastic as the vistas are absolutely breathtaking. But, it would take a skilled sailor and a great vessel to make a long passage south. It was those 25-27 footers we saw that I had to wonder about how far they travel to get to Seward. Stay Warm. Bob
