Settee/berth extension

I was thinking of adding a extension to the port side settee/berth. I know Oday had a option for the extension but my 028 did not come with it. It does have the indenture where a swing bracket would have been mounted. I was hoping someone that has the extension option could provide me a few pictures so I can see how Oday installed it. I'm interested in the hinges and how they are mounted and if backing was used. Also I have a question about the cushion that was used for the extension, I assume it's the settee back? If so, is there any support for the middle, like a fold down leg or anything? Pictures would be a great help. Thanks in advance.

The attached picture may give you some idea as to the bracket. It is hinged along the aft edge. Unfortunately I can't remember the type of hinge or if there was any kind of backing plate. Also you may be able to see on the bulkhead there is a ledge, approximately 2"x2" to support the forward end of the extension. The cushion that fits there is the back cushion from the quarter berth.

Thanks David.
I've been googling pictures of the settee/berth, it appears that it's a plywood board that slides out. I'm guessing that the plywood slides in a tract, maybe a strip of wood on the forward bulkhead and rear stove cabinet. Another question to those that have this set up. How do you access the storage? I current have hatch boards under the cushions, but if there is a sheet of sliding plywood there, do you have remove it? Any one got some pictures of the setup without the cushions in place?

I have a 1985 O'Day 23. The port side on mine does have two ledges and a piece of plywood that slides out. I am sorry I do not have a good pic- there is no support underneath and I was hesitant at first to actually lay down on it, but it does hold me with no noticeable sag. I weigh in @ 190#. I also have storage underneath and I do have to slide out the plywood/ cushions to get to it. The wood has a nice wood trim that also acts as a way to grip the plywood.

The extension on ours (1985 model) was pretty much a sheet of plywood as you say. The trim on the inboard side was attached to the plywood rather than the bench seat. The extension just slid out over the hatch boards onto that folding support and the ledge on the bulkhead. There was no track. We did have the same hatch boards you mention. We would just slide the extension out a few inches past the sleeping position to be able to open the hatch boards and access the storage. Attached is a picture of the extension fully out to be able to access the storage.

To hold the extension in the sleeping and sitting positions were a couple of sliding pins that slid into pre drilled holes in the wood on either end of the settee. The pins were mounted on the extension at its front and aft edges. You can see the one on the front edge, and the two holes for the sleeping and sitting positions in the attached. One word of caution - Don't forget to latch those pins when you go out sailing, otherwise you'll be surprised to hear the extension flying across the cabin when you get hit by a 30kt gust on port tack.
