Self tending?

Seward 23 self tending jib. bigpapaporsche, this is the best description of it it that I found. From the description and the pulley on the jib clew it sounds like a line traveler.

"My Seaward Fox has a self tacking jib. They set up up by using one line from the cleat on port, up to the eye on the cabin side, up to the pulley on the jib clew and back to the eye on starboard then back to the other cleat on Starboard. The jib did have a batten, but I think it was mostly for maintain shape off wind.
This system worked very well and was cheap."

I can think of ways of tweaking this, like tying the pulley to a short line 1-2ft long to the clew for example.

I have a self tending stay sail on Raven. It would be much better described as self tacking. I usually don't unfurl the jib when I set sail out of the mooring field so I can just put the helm over to tack. It is also great for short tacking in a tight channel.

Mime is set on a boom which does tend to get in the way when working on the fore deck but I would never get rid of it for close in sailing, Steve.

Update - a Well I brought a bad case of Montezumas revenge back from a Cancun the end of May. Worst I ever hade. Even Cipro didn't cure it completely. Throw in three business trips and June was just shot. I gave up the idea of even launching my boat as I also discovered a large area of wet core port of the mast. I just got overwhelmed to be frank. I am still debating whether or not to even bother putting her in as I already got whacked for all the fees for her being out for the summer. $1600 bucks! Which would be traumatic in itself if I wasn't printing money for a living at the moment. I am feeling guilty because one of our best friends is getting married at our club in Sept. and my boat is on the hard. I think it is safe to sail in light air...I have been sailing this way for a while quite likely and the area directly under the mast seems sound. It bled down slope from a hole drilled through the deck for the VHF cable. I am trying to cut work back, at least a little, to take some pressure off, but one client has me absolutely flat out crazy busy trying to save their asses against a simply ludicrous time line. At least the work is interesting and challenging.
