chainplate leaks
Stu was not dissembling when he suggested you completely disassemble and unload the chain plates. Make certain you dry out (& repair, if required) the deck core and surrounding areas. It’s very difficult to seal anything from the outside - like applying a patch. It’s always better to seal from the inside - like installing a gasket.Be certain to check for “ovalling” in the fastener holes, when you remove the chainplate tang from the bulkhead. This would indicate movement, which would cause sealants to separate and leak.- The deck plates are merely decorative, and should be completely unloaded.- Deckplates mounted on flat & level sections of deck (no raised pad & no slope) almost always leak. Water “pools” at the plate, with predictable result.HTH,Gord
