Name dropping

When you can namedrop a womans name in sailing, you know things are changing. Was in Annapolis with my friend Steve trying to keep some ragged boat, donated to the seascouts, from sinking. So we go to the Boatyard Cafe in Eastport and in walks an attractive woman with several female friends, and they sit down at the next table. 'Gee' I said, 'you look just like Dawn Riley.' 'I AM Dawn Riley' she says sweetly. Steve wasn't sure who that was, so I informed him that we were eating with a veteran of a Whitbread Race, an Americas Cup Race, and countless other campaigns in a professional sailing career. She then explained that she was in town because there was, um, I think it was like a women's national J-boat regatta coming up, and she was helping organize it. She then asked politely what we were up to. I felt a bit small at that moment, like when Lin Pardy was smiling at me and I couldn't think of a conversation. But that's another story.

Windrose, I will give advise and assistance

with no regard to gender, If you are working on a boat I will introduce myself and welcome conversation. Black or white, male or female, it makes no difference, if you have a boat or a home and you are my neighbor, I am pleased to know that we share the same desire, goals, and recreational pleasures. I am like a little friendly dog , I poke my nose in everywhere and make friends where I find them. I don't get kicked very often and most people are just trying to fulfill a dream. Enjoy your boat and the people you meet. There are many more nice people than jerks, so don't be put off by rude people. Ross

Slightly off-topic, but regarding Annapolis...

Now that the way-too-short summer is winding down, I'm thinking of taking a car ride to Annapolis with the family. Haven't been there since HS trip to Washington! I see the Boatyard Cafe mentioned above, wondered if anyone can give me ideas on places to visit/wander/eat/stay there if I were driving over from NJ for a weekend. I'd like to go and view the sailing scene there (possibly from the deck of a nice restaurant?) and wander around a bit. Don't want to clog the topic, so any advice please email me @ Moondancer5@comcast.net, Susan
