As my father-in-law said,

"There are more horses' asses than there are horses." The behavior of the father explained it all - he'll be the same one that is in the principal's office explaining how everyone is always picking on his kid and getting him in trouble. You handled it well - it's a shame about your hand.

If it is war that you want, then maneuver

around until you are directly up wind from them, anchor and set an old tennis shoe on fire.

Revenge A dish best eaten cold

My experience with late night boozey revelers is that they expect to sleep in the following morning. Perhaps relocating to a less dangerous area during the evening and then very early the next morning (sunrise) anchor up wind and close by for a little fishing with a can of sardines on a low simmer and your best opera cd on the exterior speakers. The red-eyed father will likely take offense but you can show him the same indifference to his plight that he exhibited to yours the night before. "Sorry, can't hear you - the music's too loud!"

Freedom isn't cheap

The cost being able to go anywhere is that anyone can go there too. I like the grilled sneaker. I May just use that idea sometime. Any agressive action like doing damage is only going to put you in jail not the actual criminal. I would definately post the boat's name and descriptions so we all know to look out for these A.H's. Maybe one of us will get the chance to grill a sneaker for ya should we see them.....

Don, Out in your back yard

set an old tennis shoe on fire and stand down wind of it. Then you will know everything you ever wanted to know about the purpose of the tennis shoe.

When they got to the point of being aggresive

(Where they were forcing their boats and dinghy's into you) I would have immediately called the marine police in the area. Kind of like what Don and Others had said. I am amazed you didn't do that. Its one thing when the are loud, its a whole 'nuther thing when they are aggressive. When you call say things like "underage boaters" & BWI (Boating while intoxicated) Unregistered Dinghy's boats, etc running over swimmers etc. Whatever it takes for the Marine Police to take the situation seriously. When the Marine police come by to check on things who do you think they are going to listen to. The quite people on a sailboat or the noisy motorboat raftup with their Aft pointing into the wind, dinghy engines running, music blasting and drunk. Hopefully they will board thier boat and find 1/2 dozen violations and maybe if your lucky some really illegal "stuff" :D Maybe that'll shut them up and fine one or two of them. If any of them are drunk in a dinghy - that'll really screw them. I bet the local Marine Police don't like this kind of behavior and hassle the crap out of them. Now don't get me wrong, I understand a good party on a boat and I am sure we've been loud a little bit late in the evening and the music pumping, but any agressive behavior or intimidation should never be tolerated
