Well I left the sanitation for last and I am paying the price. It should have been item ONE on my refit but it will all work out:). Started by looking at the forest of fittings the P.O. had on the holding tank and decided to simplify the whole mess. I am trying to replace as much of the hose with 2" PVC pipe. Cheap, odor proof and simple to work with. There will still be some hose but I feel I can get from 25 ft of hose down to 10 ft by replacing all the horizontal runs with PVC sched 40.
My question is this. Removed the nice W.C. bronze vent elbow. Has a valve cap on top. The vent hole in the elbow is solid with crud. Is this hole suposed to be open??Is there a valve in it (similar to a bicycle tube schradder valve??) Can I drill it open?? The screw cap on cap seems to seal it and would not allow air into it so what is the purpose of this valve stem??
Now, on to rebuilding my Imperial throne.
Thanks for your insight.

No hole that's full of crud is supposed to be full of crud...clean it out. Yes, there's a one way valve in it.

Can I drill it open??

No. Clean it up. Muriatic acid, available from any hardware store will get the job done done without damage to anything in the system.

The cap controls the amount of air flow...The valve opens the air valve to allow air into the line to break a siphon, closes it to allow the pump to prime instead of just pulling air in through the cap.

Groco still makes the same type of anti-siphon loop...check with them for any repair parts needed. 410-12-4242

What the heck are all those PVC fittings for? I'm especially curious about what you intend to do with the P trap. None of it belongs in a marine sanitation system.

Not sure why you have so much hose. I have six feet, the longest run, from the head to the holding tank. The holding tank is in the center v-berth. Then from the tank to the deck is about four feet.

I also have a 20 gallons Todd tank under my center V berth. I have about 2ft of hose from comode to elbow, 2 feet from elbow to shower partition, 2ft under shower seat, 3 ft under right berth and 2 ft into tank. Then 2ft from tank exit to left side to accomodate pump, 3ft under berth, 2 ft under shower seat and 5ft to deck pump out behind shower wall. I figured about 25 feet would do it. After I priced the Shields top of the line hose, I decided to explore reducing the amount of soft hose. I have managed to install all the flat runs from the shower/comode partition to the center V berth with Sched40 PVC pipe. I have 1 joint it it and a male adapter on each end. The flex hose ataches perfectly. I am using 1 1/4PVC. It is roughthly the same interior diameter as the barb fitings on the tank and pump. I figured I have removed the major source of permeation as it is a flat run and always full of liquids.
It is finaly cool enough to work in the boat during the day.
