My boat is in Oceanside Harbor, about 40 miles north of San Diego. We have some of the lowest slip fees in the southland, but I want to move up in boat size. O'side harbor wait list is very long, like 7 to 8 years for a 34' slip. Too long of a wait. Even though I have a boat there I am still on the waiting list for a 26' slip. Been on it for over 5 years now.

My other option is Camp Pendleton Marina. However, the wait list is just as long. Active Duty military have priority and bump Retired Military. I have not moved on the list in the last 5 years.

So my option is either don't get a bigger boat (unless it is in Oside Harbor) or move to San Diego. However, with the current proposed increase I think I am going to can the idea. Dana Point in Orange County is twice the cost of Oceanside.

How are the prices in your marina? Maybe we should start a sticky with marina slip fees so people visiting the site can see what to expect in there neck of the woods.

Catalina 30 San Diego/ Dana Point, Ca.
Where we are at Shelter Cove marina in SD, the slip fee for our 30' Catalina is $465 PLUS $10 for the dock box, and $20 for electric!! This has gone up in the 4 years we have been there. Our 27 catalina in Dana Point is $373 and no added fees for dockbox or electric. For a 30' in DP it is $503......... not much difference any more.

And don't forget the posessory tax bill that the State sends!

The slip fee for a 25' slip in Redondo Beach is $12.06 a foot. My marina has been good about holding the cost for the past two years. There are some available, but it's going to be a bit of a drive for you!

Cabrillo Marina in outer L.A.Harbor is $11.88/ft. for 30' slip ($356.40) and electricity is metered separately, with refrigeration about $5/month. IMHO Cabrillo, with excellent facilities, professional management, closest marina to Catalina (19.3 NM to Isthmus Cove) and excellent sailing conditions daily, is an outstanding bargain. We have excellent parking, laundry facilities, clean restrooms w/ showers, fuel and pumpout dock, storage lockers, major event facilities and commercial space available.

FWIW, there are currently several 30' slips open, no wait list at all and they'll give me $50 for each referral so let's fill 'em up boyz, Kalina needs new anchor chain.

san diego mooring co has moorings in san diego bay. they lease from port of san diego. we pay around 130 per month for moorings. there is a temporary mooring availability at double the regular mooring price. as i write more folks are lining the lists as they donot like the rental rates in marinas here , either. even the yacht clubs have years of waiting list. there are cruiser deals for month at a time in chula vista's cal yacht marina. that is about 2 hours or more from the sea.
if you need an immediate placement, please call vanessa in the mooring office and talk with her.

My 40'X15' slip in Port Aransas Texas is $168 a month. (free elec. up to a certain amount) My meter is broke, no one seems to motivated to fix it, me at the top of the list. The tides are only a few feet at most, but if you want the floating dock it is $90 more a month.
I was on a waiting list for 9 months for this slip.
Before you get excited, this aint southern california or the awesome cruising grounds of Maine.

Bargin slips....

....is what you guys have. I dock in Chicago, which is in Cook County, or crook county, as some of us like to say. Since I reside in a suburb and not the city I pay an extra fee. So my bill comes to a bit over $5000 for my 35 ft. slip that I am lucky to use a full 5 months. That's about $27.77/ft. I do get fresh water and electric from that deal. Bath & shower facilities are poor. I get 2 parking passes for cars. Other's pay, I think, approx. $15 every time they park.

Bright side is that I am 17 miles from my house, the skyline is hard to beat, fireworks every Wednesday and Saturday evening (most of the season), and great neighbors.

$5K$ per year

but, I am lucky to get my boat in mid May and out by mid Oct., a 5 month season. A few die hards can make it the full 6 months - just too cold for me . Yes, I am done sailing already this year and I have started saving for next years fees, which I am sure will go up. They always do.

So you rent your slip year round but only park your boat in it 5 months out of the year? Do you also pay for on-the-hard storage?

I'm in the same harbor system in Chicago. The fee is for May 1st to October 31st. We have to pay for winter storage off the lake. Like Pat says, our season is pretty well over now (took my boat out last week). You can get a late leaver pass for around $200 that lets you stay in a slip in certain harbors until Nov. 15th but unless you've got plenty of time off to select a date to haul your boat out it gets pretty risky staying that long (gales of November).

figure slip fees here are per foot per month, at 18 dollars and up per foot per month, slippage in so cal is high, and then added to the basic slip fee, electricity, water, live aboard , whatever--some even charge for parking .

is why i am on moorings.

sounds like it is waay past time to go sailing.

is reasonable.. 34' slip with power and water is $135, about $4/ft in the area where my slip is. I park next to the slip. I have been in this marina since 1978, and I still like it. Waiting list is long..
