I'm considering purchasing a Catalina 320, and have the opportunty to purchase a 1998 model, that was salaged from Pensacola, after Hurricane Katrina. The information I have received is that it was lightly damaged, mainly to the railings and hull, she did not sink of fill with water. It comes with brand new sails, new upholstery, new rigging, (original mast, new gelcoat. The work has been done in a local reputable Marine Boat Yard and is offered at a relative good price. Does anyone have any advise as to purchasing a "re-furbished storm boat" and how concerning is a "salt-water" boat versus fresh-water only. This boat is located in the Great Lakes Region, and the subject of salt versus fresh water is always up for discussion.

survey

I would suggest finding a good surveyor, not connected with the boat yard, and have the boat check out. Open cabinets, check the water tank, how man hours on the engine, refrigerator, hot water, shower drain, holding tank, open and close all thru hull valves, etc. And good luck.

Insurance

Check with your insurance company, see if they require anything special in order to insure it. Sometimes the insurance rules are different if it is a true "salvage boat."
