Another way to do same thing, especially with your in-mast furling main. I do this in a 10 knot wind anchorage.

1) Unfurl your main about 1 foot or so.
2) Belay your main sheet to center position of your boom
3) Set you Anchor alarm to be, Distance = anchor chain + rode + boat length + 10' [GPS precision ;)]

For the record, I think SailGunner's comment was exactly what I would expect to see on this site. Short observation of his personal experiences. No shouting, ranting or raving or little foam bubbles around the corners of his mouth. Now you may agree or disagree with the comment. It may be "dumb as hell" or provide "keen insight" to the discussion. Just because somebody has less or more experience or a better or worse way of analyzing the situation does not mean they are throwing a dart at anybody. Quote the observation and make one of your own, that is what we used to called "having a debate". KingsGambit's comment on hours vs miles being a great example.

My 466 will also sail +- 30 degrees and can be quite annoying. I rig a "Banner" anchor sail and that dampens it to maybe +- 10-15 degrees. I never thought of unfurling the main a little. I will try that as well.
